A un passo

One Step Away
"One Step Away" is the hectic tale of a presumed condemned to death. Moving to find yourself, without ever being able to reach yourself. Getting the run-up and trying to reach the borderline, visible but always one step away from you. The horizon moves, it's mercurial. We approach the finish line, but the goal, with a flicker, slips always away.
This is a book with a dizzying pace, and, through the description of superficiality in contemporary relationships, it speaks about the relativity of existence.
The language is dry, cruel at times, but infinitely deep in substance.
Reality seems made for good accountants, for those who, from an early age, looking at the starry sky, goes over many times the times' tables to be ready.
JJ Beck, the protagonist, between Paris, Mumbai, and New York, always remains a stranger and a spectator. But then, at last, and unbeknownst to him, life bursts bright. A gesture will be enough.
Book Review
"One Step Away is the best-kept secret of Italian literature, it's JJ Beck the sturdy pursuer of the emotional fulfillment everyone is looking for. A visionary pre-covid novel, the protagonist a modern Etranger touching on the shallowness of our century so far. A futuristic call for a human renaissance - Only, that future is now the present. "
